Keep Your Spirits Up Felt like this winter was never going to end; outside my window, looks like rain again. Sure would be nice if the sun came out today; feel like these blues may never go away. I remember what my father told me when I was just a boy growin’ up “Don’t let the bastards get you down; you gotta keep your spirits up. You gotta keep your spirits up.” Feels like this game can’t be on the square. Every hand’s a loser; somebody ain’t playing fair. Standing in the shadows, they call all the shots. I had good intentions, but they all went for naught. Don’t let them know just how much it hurts. Hope for the best and prepare for the worst. That day still haunts me when he looked me in the eye said “I don’t have to tell you, you know I’m gonna die. The world’s full of buggers lookin’ to do you in, but if you keep fighting, someday you’ll win.’’ Now I know it don’t get easier just because you’re all grown up. Don’t let the bastards get you down; you gotta keep your spirits up. You gotta keep your spirits up.
